CHAMPAGNE ÉTIENNE CALSAC
CHAMPAGNE, FRANCE
Étienne Calsac
  • WHO
Étienne Calsac is a talented winemaker who started in 2010 at the age of 26. He took over 3 hectares of vineyards that belonged to his grandparents in the Avize area (he now manages a total of 6 hectares). Before Étienne stepped in, the grapes were sold to large négociant houses. Étienne not only revived the family estate but also elevated it to the top echelon of grower-producers in Champagne.
  • WHERE
Étienne Calsac’s estate spans vineyards located in the prestigious Côte des Blancs villages of Avize, Grauves, and Bisseuil. These vineyards are predominantly planted with Chardonnay, which makes up over 95% of his plantings. He also manages a small, exceptional 0.5-hectare plot in the Côte des Bar, Bligny.
  • PHILOSOPHY
Étienne Calsac’s winemaking philosophy is rooted in respect for the land and tradition. He adopts a minimalist approach to winemaking, aiming to express the purity of the terroir in his wines. Fermentation occurs spontaneously, and aging takes place in both stainless steel tanks and oak barrels. He is committed to organic farming practices, emphasizing the well-being of both the plants and the people involved.
